The Jamaican Evangelical Alliance strongly condemns the cold, calculated, and inhumane manner in which the residents of Cooper’s Pen were evicted and their homes demolished.
This represents a failure by the government to adequately protect the rights and dignity of the residents of Cooper’s Pen.
The use of security forces to detain the men of the community prior to the demolition of their homes represents an abuse of state authority.
The failure of the state’s system to provide any alternative housing or shelter prior to their displacement is unacceptable.
The state has again failed its poor and most vulnerable.
