Devotional:  ‘A Light Shineth’ – CommunicationDevotional:

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. Romans 12:2

Be QUIET and listen!

In our devotion today, we will explore why being quiet is so highly esteemed by God. According to the dictionary, Quiet is ‘peaceful, without being interrupted’, ‘free from noise or uproar’ and ‘the state of having very little noise’. Besides peace, why else should we be quiet? What does the Bible say?

And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the Lord. And, behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the Lord; but the Lord was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the Lord was not in the earthquake: And after the earthquake a fire; but the Lord was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice (1 King 19: 11-12).

But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly (Matthew 6:6).

But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you (John 14:26).

Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart. (2 Corinthians 3:3)

In our last devotion on this theme of “communication,” we discussed how quietness brings peace; but there is a further blessing to receive as we quiet our soul, and that is: clearer communication with God.

Have you ever wondered how to hear God, how to hear His voice amongst all the noise around you?

First of all, God the Father sent Jesus (God the son), and Jesus sent the Holy Ghost (God the Holy Spirit), so it the Holy Ghost who has been given the responsibility to teach us all things (John 14:26). This communication becomes more direct after we receive the infilling of the Holy Ghost for the Word is now written in our hearts (2 Corinthians 3:3).

The Lord talked to Elijah not in the wind, earthquake or fire, but in a still small voice (1 Kings 19: 12) so we need to find a quiet place (Matthew 6:6).

As I was preparing this article, the Lord gave me an experience I wish to share. It showed me clearly how communication with God is easier when we are quiet. It also reminded me that God is bigger than even the most advanced technology of man.

I was watching tik tok with my husband and as we switched through the short videos, we heard a continuous sound. When the videos were quiet, we heard it more clearly; when they were noisy, we hardly heard it, but it was always there, it was a repeating song, “I am blessed, I am blessed, every day of my life I am blessed. When I wake up in the morning and I lay my head to rest, I am blessed. I am blessed.

It taught me that God is always talking, but are we listening?

Let us pray.
