Gospel artist Jesus Rambo packs a powerful punch in his ministry, and if he comes across with a hard-to-resist personality when he hits the stage, then he will be the first to acknowledge that it is coming from a place of someone who recognises how much grace they are enjoying from the Lord.
Now living a completely surrendered life to God, he delivers the undiluted Word via songs, preaching, singing, and deejaying.
It was not always that way—he has turned his life completely around from the lawless youth who roamed the streets of Clarendon involved in drugs, gangs, and living a life of crime.
Hailing from Smithville, he relocated to May Pen, mainly fending for himself.
Eventually, he got the opportunity to migrate, but his life went downhill from there as he dropped out of school to sell drugs, getting deep in the underworld as he engaged in criminal activities including robbery and shooting.
“I was a guy who was homeless. I didn’t grow up with love, so when I came to the United States, I was homeless. I had to drop out of school and sell drugs,” he shared in an interview with Freedom Come Rain.
3 BROTHERS SHOT – 1 SURVIVED
Born Lamar Davy, he was awakened to his own immortality when he became a victim of the street—he got shot, and when he was looking for support from his friends, there was none—they all turned their backs on him.
He started to regret his life of crime and the “bad man” persona he was portraying. It got even worse when his 16-year-old brother died, along with his other brother, after receiving 11 shots.
After receiving three spiritual encounters with God, he said he was prompted to change his life.
His conversion occurred at a time when he was contemplating taking the life of someone who, he said, had betrayed him.
“I got shot…and nobody wanted to help me. I lost everything and had nobody to turn to, so I gave my life to the Lord,” he shared.
After deciding to surrender to the Lord, he joined gospel artiste Tyrone Thompson’s (Papa San’s) church in Florida after coming under conviction from a message he had preached.
His path to adopting the moniker “Jesus Rambo” was set one day while seeking the Lord. He was convicted to start proclaiming the Word and message of God and envisioned the name “Jesus Rambo”—a striker for the LORD. The name was a perfect fit, as lyrics started to flow accordingly: to fight for Jesus Christ and not give up the fight within himself.
IN FIGHTING FOR JESUS, I WAS HEALED
It proved to be the pathway for the miracle he needed for the illness he was fighting.
“I stopped taking medication and started seeking God even more. I noticed I started feeling better without taking medication, and on returning to my doctor, I advised them I was not taking the medication, which was paramount. So they decided to run some tests, with all the results showing I was healed.”
Today, his songs are testimonies of God’s work in his life. A cross between dancehall and preaching, Jesus Rambo’s collection of songs includes “Usher Dem Out”, “Nah go Hell”, and “I’m Thirsty.”
Jesus Rambo will be performing in Jamaica at the “Awesome Praise Experience Weekend” on Saturday, March 18 at the Spring Village Development Foundation, Spring Village, St Catherine. He will be joined by Dwayne Murphy, Rian Davis, and Chozen Vessel, among others.
