A towering 50-foot bronze statue of the Greek Titan Prometheus is rising near the entrance to SpaceX’s Starbase in Texas.
The Paris-based classical metal artiste Atelier Missor announced the erection of the effigy over the weekend.
In Greek mythology, Prometheus bears much significance. He is the Titan who defied the Greek god Zeus by stealing fire from the gods and giving it to humanity. That act enabled technology, craft, and civilization itself.
For his rebellion, Zeus bound him and condemned him to eternal torment, with an eagle devouring his liver each day only for it to regenerate. The myth has long symbolized the costly gift of knowledge, the refusal to accept imposed limits, and the drive to advance human capability.
While SpaceX and its boss Elon Musk have not taken ownership of the project, there are big plans to mount similar figures at key places across the United States.
“We want to build larger and larger Prometheus statues everywhere across the West.” Missor has reportedly announced.
Already, crews are assembling the monumental figure on private land just outside the SpaceX facility’s city limits, with sections cast in France and to be shipped across the Atlantic.
The statue is being designed to stand fully erect “in a few days,” with a torch raised high in its hand.
Atelier Missor secured landowner consent and local permits for what it describes as its own tribute to technological progress and humanity’s multiplanetary ambitions.
The bronze figure is expected to cost around $1 million. Larger titanium versions remain part of the workshop’s longer-term vision for monumental classical sculpture across the West.
Atelier Missor has framed its work in exactly those terms. “In a few days, Prometheus will stand 50 ft tall, holding high the torch of the West,” the foundry posted as assembly advanced near Starbase.
The workshop has described the Starbase placement as a gift offered in gratitude for efforts pushing humanity forward, linking the ancient fire-bringer to the rockets now preparing to leave Earth.
The bronze statue arrives after years of planning. In 2025, founders of the atelier outlined ambitions for a far larger titanium Prometheus at the same site, presenting a maquette in California and arguing that classical monumental art could help renew civilizational confidence.
Titanium was chosen for its strength, resistance to corrosion, and durability. The current 50-foot bronze version marks the first realized step of that vision, positioned where Starship vehicles stand against the South Texas sky.
