Letter to the editor: The Days of Scoffing

Dear Editor,

In his lament in Psalm 74, Asaph enunciates this plea in verse 22. “Arise, O God, defend your cause; remember how the foolish scoff at you all day!” These days are definitely some of those scoffing days. God is largely relegated to the back burner, and good is now evil, and vice versa. Truth has fallen in the street and is stifling, trying desperately not to die. Few will run to the aid of truth, not wanting to be identified with old, traditional norms and preferring to be deemed modern and progressive.

Making Their Own Laws

What am I talking about now? Look around you, and it will all stare you blatantly in the face. Many among us are having a field day at making up our own laws, slighting standards, and balking at God and the directives given to us in the Bible. Take the many horrible road users and law breakers all over; or the scammers and their get-rich-quick plans; and the killers and robbers of life and possessions. Look at the hired hit-men who no longer have anything beating in their chests. Not to mention some of our politicians who are ‘strategist hit-men’ themselves, but at the national levels!

Colossal Mess

Added to all that is the newest low among the God scoffers, those who want to tell the globe that you are what you ‘feel’. This results in a colossal mess all around, dissolving all truth of who God made us to be, and demeaning and animalizing humans made in the image of God! They accuse others of intolerance when they are the ones refusing to tolerate our original beliefs and instead expect us to embrace their garbage. They have big bucks and flood everywhere with it, seeking to push their beliefs down everyone’s throats. They are waterless springs and mists driven by a storm.

Stop and Turn

Scripture says that for them, the gloom of utter darkness has been reserved, (2 Peter 2:17). So, what is to become of this decline? They, indeed we all, have the option of repenting and scoffing no more. God will definitely Arise! He patiently waits for the foolish to turn. His harm of mercy is very long. He is waiting to be good to us. Why should you die, oh sinner, when Jesus has already died for you?

Stop scoffing, cheating, hating, killing, doing evil, lying, hurting, backbiting, changing how you were born, and causing mayhem. God is going to judge every work and every secret thing, and hell is not pretty. So, stop and turn!

I am,

Georgia Campbell
