Letter to the Editor: The fruits of the spirit and spiritual sickness

Whenever I hear of someone being sick, I always say that shouldn’t be so. You might ask why and I would respond to you by saying that sickness is not my portion, so why should it be yours?

If God did not give us a spirit of fear, then why should He give us a spirit of sickness? If it’s not to bring shame to the devil, then why else should we take ownership of the spirit of sickness? What makes people sick? Some would say that sickness is a result of stress, poor eating habits and/or choices, smoking, or excessive drinking. Or, in unique cases, – some cancers or auto immune diseases are not known.

I always find it so interesting to find out what are the main causes of illnesses? Or rather, what causes the spirit of sickness to fall on one’s life? What if I told you that the root of spiritual sickness is spiritual ? It doesn’t matter what sickness the doctor says you have or what you feel you have. The devil is a

liar, a thief and a murderer, and God’s word is truth. I have seen many people accept the spirit of sickness and death over their lie- just like that! Without a fight at that.

Jeremiah 1: 5 speaks about God knowing us in the spirit before we took form into the physical. He said, “Before I formed thee in the belly, I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb, I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.” If this is true, then indeed life and death is in the power of the tongue and they that love it shall eat of it. How could it not be? Life is spiritual and what we eat plays a big part in the fruits we bear! I am not talking about the physical food, but the spiritual food we watch, listen and claim over our lives. Many a times, persons listen to songs that

talks about being sick in love, or they talk about a person they dislike in disgust, stating “the person sick me stomach”. It starts out from sowing seeds of jealousy, hatred, and most of all unforgiveness towards ourselves and others. Harbouring rotten fruits produces spoilt juice; who want’s that taking place or effect in their spirit?

I encourage you all, Christian or not – not to harbour the spirit of hatred, unforgiveness, and jealousy. Get rid of it by rebuking that stronghold, forgiving said person, and asking God for forgiveness. After doing so, I encourage you to decree and declare out loud in faith that

you’re healed in Jesus name and that no weapons of infirmity shall take root in my life and the spirit of death is cut off in Jesus name. Amen!
