Time To Cash Those Cheques!

Over the past few weeks, I have been feasting on a book written by Charles Spurgeon. The book, The Cheque Book of the Bank of Faith, is rather enlightening and is based on the many “cheques” God is waiting to “cash” for us. It is founded on the promises and principles that God has set forth for us to receive His blessings.

Reading it has got me thinking about the many cheques that I have not endorsed, much less presented to God’s bank to be cashed. If we want to be truly blessed, then we have to go back to the old landmark and make sure we are doing the things that will enable us to “collect”.

Are you expecting to meet all your financial obligations, to be in good health, and to ensure that whatever you embark on, the devourer does not come and destroy? Then there is a principle laid out for that.

Read the book of Malachi, chapter 3:8, and you will receive a challenge. God says, “Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings.” He then urges us to “prove me now herewith” and see if He will not “open you the windows of heaven and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.”

Are you longing for a closer relationship with God? Do you long to be so in sync with Him that you don’t even have time to be bothered by whatever is happening around you?

Again, in the book of James, the foundation is set forth for you to enjoy this kind of fellowship. He encourages us to “draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you” – James 4:8.

Don’t expect to get to know God more and more if, each day you arise, you are so busy that you don’t even have the time to read a Psalm or to find five minutes to commune with Him.

No friendship can withstand a lack of communication. It is the same with our Heavenly Father. He invites us to “come now, and let us reason together” – Isaiah 1:18.

Do you have dreams that you haven’t yet realised? Are you probably wondering what the best turn to take is? The Lord is way ahead of you on that score. Read Proverbs 3:5-6, and you will see the groundwork for it: “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”

Of course, there will be times when you are doing all these things and yet your answer is long in coming, and it seems as if it won’t even get answered at all. You may be asking yourself if you are harbouring some secret sin in your life.

But don’t beat up on yourself. As Jesus told His disciples, “Some things come not but by prayer and fasting.” It may be that the Lord wants you to “stand a little longer in the line” before you can “cash your cheque”.

You don’t have to worry; there will still be enough “cash” in the bank to take care of your “cheque”.

No matter what the situation in your life, no matter what course you have to take, no matter what blessings you seek, rest assured in the knowledge that God has already written your “cheque”. Just get into the “Bank of Faith” – the Bible – and see how you can redeem them.
