For Josiah Henriques, a student of Richmond Park Preparatory School, receiving his Primary Exit Profile (PEP) results was a moment of excitement and accomplishment after months of hard work and preparation.
Josiah earned a place at Calabar High School, an achievement he says made him feel both happy and excited about the next stage of his academic journey.
“I was very excited,” Josiah recalled. “I felt happy and excited to go there.”
Determined to perform well, Josiah adopted a disciplined approach to studying. He created a timetable that allowed him to focus on different subjects throughout the week, ensuring he remained organised in the months leading up to the examinations.
“I made a timetable on how many days I wanted to study,” he explained. “For instance, on Monday I’d study Language Arts, and on Tuesday I’d study Mathematics.”
In addition to following his study schedule, Josiah completed numerous practice tests and revised with friends,. This helped to strengthen his understanding of the material and build confidence before sitting the exams.
Outside of the classroom, Josiah says his faith played an equally important role in helping him through the PEP process. Having grown up in church, he remains actively involved in ministry at the Kingdom Embassy Family Ministries International,
playing the drums at both his home church and another congregation.
Despite his success, Josiah admitted that confidence did not always come naturally. At times, he doubted himself, but he learned that believing in his abilities was just as important as studying.
“I was not always confident in myself,” he shared.
Looking back on his PEP journey, Josiah has a simple but valuable advice for students preparing to sit the examinations.
“You have to stay calm, you have to stay confident, you have to believe in yourself, and you have to practice,” he said. “Just get better at everything you do.”
He also credited his mother for being one of his biggest sources of encouragement throughout the process, providing the support he needed to stay focused on his goals.
As he prepares to begin life at Calabar High School after graduating from Richmond Park Prep School, Josiah is looking forward to the opportunities ahead. His story highlights how determination, disciplined study habits, family support, and a strong faith can help students achieve success and confidently embrace the next chapter of their education.
