“The Straw that Broke the Camel’s Back!”

Dear Editor,

I have endured silently while this government puts Jamaica under the bus and creates a smoke screen about the ‘glorious strides’ they are making to appease ‘international’ interests, no doubt.

Last week, I heard Minister Floyd Green talking about getting investors from ‘farin’ to invest in agriculture in Jamaica. My God of grace! We won’t invest in our farmers, but we want to do everything to attract investors under the guise that we want to improve technology for our farmers. You all have sold Jamaica out. Do we even own anything? Don’t even get me started on the present NIDS. The government officials who have been accused of so many untoward activities are ‘ministering’ over us, the cashless society, to facilitate the global agenda that is being promoted through blatant and ‘covert’ activities. This includes bringing homosexual content into our schools; trying to change the buggery law and the humungous hike in the politicians’ salaries, while most of the public sector got a penny’s raise; and so much more. If I hear the word inclusion one more time! There is just this disregard for the poor, widows, orphans, and strangers in the land. I am tired of the smoke screen! Tired!

Now, on August 11, 2023, I went to the ATM to draw some money from my account to deposit it in my account at another bank’s ATM. When I drew the money, the ATM gave me solely ‘new’ money. I don’t like them, but I said okay. I have no choice in the matter.  So I went to the Scotia Centre’s ATM that evening. I usually pride myself in taking 30-45 seconds at the ATM. On this particular trip to the ATM, my husband said I took nearly 20 minutes. The machines would not take the deposit of the ‘new’ money. After finally finding a machine that would take deposits (some of the machines weren’t working), I tried, and tried; each time the machine would spit them out as invalid notes. By this time, the ATM was full of persons. I had to ask everyone if they had the old notes. Finally, I got one $5,000 bill exchanged for the old $5,000 bill. I had to go back to the car to see if I found any old notes, and asked my husband as well. He was coming to look for me by that time because he assumed something must be wrong.

This experience was the straw that broke the camel’s back. Simple experience, it can be said, but I have just had it. Please, politicians, you were elected by the people. Kindly make decisions that are in the interests of your fellow Jamaicans! Thank you!

I am,

Alicia Solomon
